WIP from “The Shape of a Soul”
Part 1 Here.
In the evening, she sat by the fire, knitting new socks while Aunt Anya told a story, her children listening attentively. She had a lovely voice for it and big, expressive gestures.
"I'll just finish this," Marya said, gesturing at her knitting, when the kids began to nod off and Aunt Anya ushered them off to bed.
"Don't stay up too late," her aunt said, leaning down briefly to press a kiss to the top of her head. "They look great."
"Thanks, I've been trying that new technique Grandma Tanya taught me. Good night." Marya used the last of the fire light to finish the socks and when she stood up to stretch, her back cracking a little, she found herself shivering suddenly.
Frowning, she looked from the slowly dying fire to the window as another shiver ran down her spine. It was too warm in here for her to be cold. Instinctively, she found herself rubbing at her arms as she cautiously stepped towards the window. It was tightly closed, as was the front door, so there was no way any kind of icy draft could have gotten inside.
Another icy shiver ran down her spine, this one strong enough that her teeth almost chattered and she felt as though her breath had gotten caught in her lungs, struggling to be released.
It was suddenly too cold, the fire snuffing out entirely between one second and the next, leaving only barely glowing embers behind. The crows took flight with a start and they started cawing. Noises she usually considered to be warning sounds.
Peering outside, she saw something pale between the trees, something that revealed itself to be unnaturally thick fog, which rolled past the tree line like one massive wave. It stretched large, wavering fingers between the buildings of Green Rock, as though it was an intangible giant trying to find something on the ground, the edges drifting up against the wooden walls.
With a start, Marya remembered the warnings of the villager in Stumpton, how monsters had come with the fog. The crows suddenly went mad in the sky, near screeching as they cawed louder than ever before, swooping lower over houses as they flew fast, tight rounds around the village.
Part 3 here.

So after that post above, I've wanted to draw two chibis ( Not other Pokemon came to mind. Hence the post saying Eevee or Mew. I don't know who else could be a contender tbh ). And Well I love both xD. Internet still down, so apologies for the photo being through mobile ;-;
Tough to decide which to go for to use as a base for the enormous batch. Mean... I could do TWO enormous batches ( Not back to back ) 🤔. But that still doesn't help with the decision of who to go first.
Ps. I should note that, the reason I decided upon Mew and Eevee ( Sadly brain is blank on anyone else ) as contenders, is because they are both popular Pokemon in the adopt sphere and that, in my opinion, feels more easier to have ideas when implementing what Pokemon to put as fusion as onto them ;u;. Like... They are small and yet I have a much easier time on what to put with the Pokemon they are fused with >w<. It's why, in the past, I had a lot more larger selection when I made both Eevee and Mew adopts!
Pss. Once I do create the enormous batch of either, should I stick with the USD minimum to being $10, lower it to $5, or have it be in the middle of $7 🤔? Note that they are not set prices. Only minimum set of how low a person can offer. This does not 100% mean that they would be accepted right away!

I wasn't kidding when I said I spent an hour just trying to sketch out the pose for this drawing! Sometimes you just gotta go through like 8 sketch layers to figure out what you're doing.
I also ended up looking at two references--this one from The Pose Archive, which I traced the legs from after struggling for a while to get proportions that looked right, and a photo of myself that I asked my roommate to take so I could figure out what to do with the arms. The process got significantly faster when I remembered I could use references and started working with them.
I think it's good to show some of the behind-the-scenes of your artwork every now and then, both because process is cool and because it removes some of the sheen of "whoa, i could never make that." I know I get discouraged at times by artists who "make it look easy," when really I can't see all the time and hard work that went into making something. I don't want to create that feeling for anyone else!
So, here's a glimpse into how much I struggled to get the pose right, and below is the timelapse where you can see how much I fiddled with the colors until I had something I was happy with. It was probably at least two hours of "i am spending way too much time on this" and "why does this still not look right" before I got to a point where I started thinking, "wow, this looks good." But I got there eventually, and I'm really happy I stuck it out!

I am yet again procrastinating on schoolwork by making shitposts and starting a somewhat ambitious fanart :"^)
I really wanna mess around and experiment with the mosaic-"censoring" and implied(? (but-still-pretty-much-in-your-face)) gore with this one >;^) I'm kinda terrified but masochistically looking forward to drawing the background and lighting/shading, since I don't usually fuck around with those much (at least not on the same scale as i'm planning to do with this)
...
...haaaah, i miss fixating on normal, healthy-ish fandoms with no fucked up shit being the focal point... :'\ /jk, I'm having a great time here ( ͡º ꒳ ͡º)

WIP for the long short-story “Holding Curses with Gentle Hands”
Lune had been born a little different, two minutes before her twin brother Luc, into a world teeming with magic. She grew up like any other little girl, playing and roughhousing, splashing through mud with her brother. They learned how to climb trees up and down with all the fearlessness of someone who had not quite yet learned how painful falling could be.
She was bright and inquisitive and always pulled her brother along towards her next idea. Showing him snails and slugs and bugs and bees. He came up with stories of all kinds as they played, creating crafty trolls and sweet little fairies as they swung sticks around and made dolls out of grass and flowers.
They came back home with skinned knees and rips in their clothes and grins so wide and bright they might just rival the sun. They were, indeed, very happy children.
It was only when school started that Lune and Luc learned that they were different. In a world where their neighbor grew a bucket of strawberries in the span of a week, where the grouchy mayor always looked sparkling and perfect and every child learned at least one or two cantrips as they grew up, they were very, very ordinary.
Not a single spark of magic was to be found in their veins.
At first their parents were very concerned, worried that something had happened to their beloved children. That someone might have cursed the babes out of jealousy. Their mother sought out everyone she might have accidentally insulted to apologize, while their father reached out to old friends he lost contact with, worried he might have offended them.
But when an expert came by, he told them the children were fine. They were just ordinary. As bland as old lettuce, he said.
"They're bright children," their neighbor said while bringing them a bowl of strawberries. "It doesn't matter if they have magic or not. At worst their lives will be a little boring."
"We'll adjust their classes," their kind and cheerful teacher promised. "Don't worry, we'll compensate for their lack of magic. They could become great, um, scribes!"
"They don't understand what they're lacking," the mayor said offhandedly during one of his rounds through their little town. "They were born without magic, they didn't lose it. That's a good thing, it will cause them less grief."
Lune and Luc heard their parents cry at night and they looked at each other, deciding that if they had no magic, at least they could be kind. They would make sure their parents wouldn't have to be so sad all the time.
They became some of the hardest working students their school had ever seen and the entire town had nothing but praise for the friendly twins willing to lend a helping hand. Their parents got used to their magic lacking children and while everyone in town knew and never failed to inform travelers and traders about the unfortunate twins, it bothered them less and less over the years.
When the time came that Lune and Luc were old enough to leave the house, their parents were incredibly reluctant to let them go.
"There are a lot of dangers in the world," their mother worried, wringing her hands. "You have no magic to defend yourselves with."
"We'll be careful," Lune promised. "And we'll stick together."
"How will you avoid bandits and rogue mages and magical beasts?" their father fretted, packing daggers into their bags.
"We'll stay on the road," Luc answered. "The queen's road is safe and regularly patrolled. We'll stick with other travelers and traders so we won't be alone."
Their words soothed their parents. While they were sad to see their children go, they gave the twins everything they could possibly need and sent them on their way.
For the first time, Lune and Luc left their hometown and soon they realized how freeing it was to meet people who had no idea who they were. What they were lacking.
They reached a big city after a couple of weeks, getting lost among winding streets and big, bustling crowds. They met mercenaries and adventurers and at one point, Luc started to write down stories inspired by their tales if they agreed to speak to him. He accumulated a big book full of daring tales, of dashing heroes and wicked foes and wondrous places. Of loss and love and what it meant to be brave.
They settled down in the city after a while. Luc learned to play the lute from an old bard and spent his nights in taverns, chatting up travelers and earning his keep by playing music and telling his tales. As well as fleecing drunkards at games of dice.
Lune found herself working at an antique store that doubled as a pawnbroker. Many of the adventurers came to get rid of the odd trinkets and pretty, shiny knickknacks they picked up during their travels and quests.
Sometimes, the items they tried to pawn off were magical and that always made her boss leery. He always refused them, sending them on their way.
"It just means shit's cursed," he would grumble into his majestic beard. "They would not come to us if they could sell magic items to mages instead. Don't touch those things, even the best mages can't always defend themselves against curses."
"Can't curses be broken?" She had heard enough of those tales from the stories Luc read her. He liked to read things he wrote out loud, getting her opinion on his wording and descriptions.
"Aye," the shop owner dusted one of the stained glass decorations he had been trying to sell for a while now. "But you can only remove the curse from the person, not from the item. That's what makes curse casters so much trouble, they fuck up perfectly good merchandise. The best you can do is destroy the item in question and hope that the curse let's go. Doesn't always work, but it's worth a try."
He made Lune promise to never accept magical items from anyone and already the next day she unwittingly broke that promise. She had no magic and therefore no sense for magic either.
She accepted a plain gold necklace from a mercenary while her boss was in the backroom. The woman had handed the necklace over with gloved hands and a relieved look in her eyes.
Lune chalked that up to her having debts to pay off and startled when her boss returned only to start cussing.
"Stupid girl," he hissed, staring at the necklace in her hand while the woman bailed before she could be stopped. "That's magic, cursed magic! Do you have any idea what that will do to you?"
Startled, Lune dropped the necklace onto the counter and they both stared at it as though it was a life, poisonous snake.

WIP
Amidst all the change in my life, I've been daydreaming about a chapter 2 for Paint and Progress. This AU is calling to me. It's v fun to write. Scarred Hange - good. Painter Levi - good.
The same structure as chap 1, but swapped round so present day Hange and Levi's past memories. I'm trying to plot it in detail. It's getting there.
A painter must have a light hand. A paint brush’s fine hair, whether dipped in cloudy watercolour inks or encapsulated in thick oil paste, must glide across paper and canvas as if it were glass.
Hange thinks this every time Levi cares for her mottled cheek. Whilst he fulfils many artistic roles, she thinks he is a painter first and foremost. The tenderness that he shows a canvas is the same tenderness he shows her every night in her bathroom when she’s perched on the side of the tub and he’s sat on the closed toilet. The cheap fluorescent light flickers and she’s sure she looks ugly.
With a feathery touch, Levi’s fingertips glide over the bumps on her cheek as if she were made of glass and not disfigured flesh. Starting with the prescribed serum, then moving on to the lotion, then the thick cream. He does each step slowly, ensuring the potions and whatnot are absorbed before moving to the next time. The routine is cumbersome to Hange. She knows she has to do it to aid the scarring, but she can’t bring herself too. On the occasional night when she’s alone, she forgets. But she thinks the way Levi remembers to do it must be love.
